An Ode To Poetry
Written by Gabrielle McCann on August 7, 2023
Writing is one creative way that people can express themselves. Writing stories and songs is an amazing way to live vicariously through a character or
façade. One of my favorite past times is writing poetry. Poetry to me, is writing that allows an individual to divulge his or her feelings in an expressive way that is idosyncratic and specific to that individual. No two poems will ever mean the same exact thing or share the same exact context. I started to write poetry when I was in 7th grade. I read a couple Langston Hughes poems and I was hooked since. Outside of writing silly poetry, I would write about my feelings and emotions. This was truly my outlet several times in my life. Poetry to me is unique to the person writing it… maybe it rhymes maybe it doesn’t. Maybe it makes no sense to the person reading. That doesn’t matter in my opinion. Poetry cannot be put into a box.
I would like to introduce the idea of a freestyle Friday! Each Friday I will introduce a new poet or a piece of poetry that I love.
I’m calling all poets. I would like to feature your poetry on my blog. If you are interested please reach out to me via email [email protected] for details.
Two of My favorite poems:
Dreams
For if dreams die
Husbands and wives
With children between them
Sit in the subway;
So I have seen them.
One word only
From station to station;
So much to talk for
So close a relation.
