The Campbells

I’m sure we all have been in that stage of life where we wanted to be cool or impress someone. Maybe we just wanted to fit in. On August 11, 1973, this was the case for Cindy Campbell. Cindy needed a creative way to make money to buy new school clothes. What better way to do this than throw a party? As expenses grew, Cindy needed to come up with a plan quickly. She called upon her brother Clive, better known as DJ Kool Herc, to provide musical entertainment for the partygoers. The music was playing, the crowd was boomin’ (or in today’s lingo “LIT”), and the rest is what we now know as HIP HOP 50 Years Later. I can only imagine that Cindy no longer needed school clothes to impress her classmates. Hip-Hop is more than music- it is culture, family, and unity. Salute to Cindy and Clive Campbell for their part in creating Hip Hop and the magnificence that it embodies.
