Old School/ New School
Written by Gabrielle McCann on April 4, 2023
Although new music is being created in what seems an abundance, Old School music always tends to make a comeback. Come on, you know what I mean! What’s a summertime cookout without Will Smith’s ‘Summertime’ playing? What’s a Wedding reception without Cameo’s ‘Candy’ getting everyone off of their feet? Old School and New School intertwine at some point. Songs or beats are sampled. Musicians are featured. Old school music may provide inspiration for new school music.
I was listening to music the other day and Boyz II Men was up next in the rotation. I felt so refreshed. It was almost a feeling of nostalgia. Motown Philly is one of those songs that could bring someone right back to a specific place in time. It’s almost as if one could get lost in the song. Sometimes I miss old school music. Perhaps it’s because I have one more opportunity to go back to that previous time and relive it. Speaking of Boys II Men, they are on TOUR [from early April to the beginning of August and wrapping up in October].
Visit https://www.boyziimen.com/ for tour information. There are remastered videos on the site and options for streaming the entire discography.
New Edition is also on Tour. How exciting!!!! The tour looks to be going until at least the end of April. When I think of New Edition I think of “Can You Stand The Rain?’. But, I also think of just Bel Biv Devoe. Poison is one of those songs that takes me right back to my youth. I might catch myself doing the running man and trying to hit the high notes of the song.
Fun Fact:
Busta Rhymes featured BBD’s ‘Poison’ in his song “Outta My Mind’
